The road to 2018 starts here
The campaign to bring the 2018 FIFA World Cup™ to England is underway. The Bid Book is submitted in May 2010, after which
FIFA will assess the bids, before making a decision in December 2010.
FIFA has invited bidding countries to bid for either the 2018 or the 2022 Finals,
or both. England has decided to bid for both, with the focus on winning the privilege
to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup™.
A dedicated company, England 2018, has been formed to lead England’s Bid. England
2018 is positive the country can stage a fantastic festival of football to engage
the whole country – and deliver positive change for football in England and across
the world.
FIFA'S PROCESS
The FIFA World Cup™ is the biggest sport event in the world. The first finals were played in Uruguay in 1930 and interest has grown ever since. Understandably, bidding to stage the World Cup is highly competitive.
THE BID TEAM
The Bid team consists of 21 members drawn from the top echelons of the The FA, Premier League, Football League, LOCOG, government and business as well as current and former England players and managers.
