Morrisons Roadshow Drums up Support

The supermarket has visited over half of the bid cities attracting widespread support for the England 2018 FIFA World Cup™ bid

Morrisons continues to travel the country encouraging support for the England bid through its summer roadshow which has visited over 20 stores and venues: in London, Plymouth, Leeds, Bristol, Manchester, Sheffield, Essex, Newcastle and Sunderland.

At the events children and adults alike have the chance to exhibit their football prowess by becoming ‘keepie uppie king’ or putting a hat-trick past the keeper, as well as being in with a chance of winning some fantastic prizes, including a Back The Bid bag full of goodies.

People attending will also be encouraged to sign up to back the bid in store to add to the 1 million signatures already achieved by Morrisons for the England 2018 Back the Bid campaign.

During August, the roadshow will be rolling through Nottingham, Liverpool and Birmingham and to make sure that no one misses the chance to become ‘keepie uppie king’ the roadshow will be revisiting Plymouth, Newcastle, Sheffield, and Milton Keynes.

Michael Bates, Morrisons Marketing Director, said, “One million people have already signed up in our stores to show their support for the Bid.  We hope that everyone who comes to the roadshow events over the summer will add their support and demonstrate the pride, passion and depth of support that exists behind bringing the World Cup to England in 2018.”

Morrisons has a strong presence in all 12 candidate host cities – Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Newcastle Gateshead, Nottingham, Plymouth, Sheffield and Sunderland.

Former England forwards Teddy Sheringham and Alan Shearer launched the Morrisons and England 2018 partnership at Wembley Stadium in February 2010.  For more details on the partnership visit www.morrisons.co.uk.
