Host City: Nottingham

Nottingham's bid to become a FIFA World Cup 2018 host city is fast gathering pace.

Nottingham is known the world over for the legend of Robin Hood but the city has many more strings to its bow.

Nottingham, with a population of 640,000, is the capital of the English East Midlands with its immediate sphere of influence and interest reaching from the geographical, industrial and cultural heart of England to its east coast.

A connected city

Nottinghamshire has for centuries attracted people from all over the UK and the world to live, work and study in a county that mixes the modern with the mediaeval, the urban with the rural and the contemporary with the traditional.

Almost 90% of the English (and Welsh) population live within a two hour journey time of Nottingham and 12 of the 16 potential England 2018 hosts cities are within a two hour journey. Significant parts of the European mainland are within a four to five hour journey time of Nottingham.

Nottingham and Nottinghamshire aim to;

- provide local people with an opportunity to enjoy one of the world’s greatest spectacles and to celebrate Nottingham's place in that world, and

- provide a welcome to 2018 FIFA World Cup visitors from across the UK, across Europe and across the world, whatever their nationality, whichever team they follow, wherever they will be attending matches and however they wish to be accommodated and entertained.

The River Trent World Cup Park

The centrepiece of Nottingham's bid is a two kilometre long River Trent World Cup Park, within easy reach of the city centre, containing and connecting our stadium and associated activities, our media centre, VIP hosting facilities and camping for volunteers and match ticket holders.

Nottingham’s new stadium sits at the heart of our World Cup Park - an iconic, carbon neutral 40,000 capacity venue, with excellent connections to the rest of the city, county and beyond.

Nottingham is a place that can and will cater for fans of football and those who will be drawn to football by the 2018 FIFA World Cup - be they local, UK resident or from overseas - whether they are attending or not attending matches.

We love football

Our city’s love of football continues to grow - over 1700 teams are affiliated to the Nottinghamshire FA and more than 24,000 men, women and children play each week.

Nottingham’s footballing history is cherished and celebrated - Notts County is the oldest football league club in the world and our other famous legend in green Brian Clough led Nottingham Forest to two consecutive European Championship wins in 1978 and 79.
